Jan. 25, The First Date We will begin with a brief history of media. Then to get a feel for what goes on under the surface of a web page, we will tackle very simple hand coded HTML documents and upload them to the server. We will also discuss file hierarchy & index pages, Secure Shell & FTP connections. Jan. 26, Text and Dreamweaver This session will begin the introduction to Dreamweaver and WYSIWYG web page editing. In answer to the question, "Where do I keep my files so everything stays together" we will talk about the whole local vs. remote file issue as well as relative vs. absolute paths. We will also mark up text, "Bold, Strong, Italic and so on" Jan. 29, Image and Compression During today's session, we will look at configuring images and video for the web and imbedding these assets in the web page. For video we will think more specifically compression and image size. Please arrive to class with image and video assets. Jan. 30, Tables and Structure This session will cover the use of tables and delve into site architecture. One man's organization is another man's apocalyse. Do you organize deep or wide? Or at all? Tables; bringing things together in one place. Feb. 1, Frames Yeah, that thing on the side. You know...... There isn't much to it, so you will spend some class time today synthesizing things we have gone over for your own personal website. Feb. 2, CSS or Cascading Style Sheets and closure Your data is separate from the information about how it is displayed. Or in CalArts terms, content is separated from form. We will cover the basics of CSS, while leaving plenty of time to make sure that any problems with your websites are solved. |
